Should IBM Acquire Amazon?

Posted By Jeffrey Eisenberg On April 23, 2007 @ 4:30 am In Blog Buzz,e-commerce | 2 Comments

I just read an interesting post on SeekingAlpha.com [1] about why RedMonk’s James Governor believes IBM should acquire Amazon. The thinking is that “IBM is too risk averse, large-enterprise focused, and lacks a strong presence at the core of the Internet.” It’s just speculation and he doesn’t think it will happen, anyway. Even ignoring the cultural differences, I might be dense, but I don’t understand why anyone would offer this as a good idea or even one worth considering. IBM has never been good at managing consumer businesses. Can anybody explain to me why this might be a good idea?
