Mashable: “MySpace is Better Than Porn”

By John Quarto-vonTivadar

Mashable‘s headline got my attention, too. You can read ‘MySpace is Better Than Porn‘ for yourself but here’s an excerpt:

“Well, almost. The Economist (via Computers.net) has pulled up the Hitwise stats to show that social networks are about to overtake sex sites in the US any day now. The metric being measured is percentage share of site visits, with % visits to sites like MySpace, Bebo and Facebook on the increase, and % visits to porn sites going down (no pun intended). “

The post offers more information and a nice chart, but it still left me wondering.

  1. hm, i have troubles – i can not open your new page address ((

  2. Each time an addict views, masturbates and fantasizes with porn he/she sends a rush of mood altering chemicals called adrenaline, epinephrine and endorphins to the brain. The brain likes this “rush” because it feels good. Eventually after frequently acting out the porn addict develops neurological pathways in the brain. The chemicals burn mind pornographic images into the mind. One reason porn is so difficult to quit is because the images are difficult to erase. The images are reinforced every time they are remembered or further acting out occurs.

  3. I would think that myspace gets people more excited than porn does. Namely as more women visit than visit porn, men on the otherhand its probably about equal. So as a result there are a greater number of people viewing myspace than watching porn.

    Great post. Thanks for sharing.

  4. MySpace better than porn? Depends on your paramaters. MySpace is better for keeping up with the goings on of distant friends, but porn is better for deriving sexual pleasure through audio-visual stimulation.

    Horses for courses, really!
