Back to Basics: Is Your Homepage Effective?

Written by: Holly Buchanan

I hear from all sorts of folks who are working on their websites. Some are big companies with a lot of experience. Others are small business owners, creating a website for the first time. What I’ve found is, whether you are a pro or a novice, almost everyone can benefit from focusing on the basics of creating a successful website.

So, over on my Marketing to Women Online blog, I’m focusing on a real life small business owner and her website to illustrate some of the most common mistakes. We’re starting by looking at her homepage, and simple changes she can make to make it more effective. The piece specifically showcases websites targeting women, but you’ll find these homepage tips will work no matter whom you’re targeting.

Hey, even Tiger Woods has to go back and practice the basics!

Do you have any good examples of e-commerce stores that have great copy on the homepage (either gender)?

The blog looks great. I’ve added it to my reader (a female’s perspective seems hard to come by on the ‘net)!

We are unveiling our new website design May 21. Our focus and tag line for our site, ads, and anything we do is “Where Fort Worth Women Go to Simplify Life.” I would be curious to see your critique of our new site. We have developed approximately 100,000 visitors a month with our old version as now displayed. It will be interesting to see how much we can increase readership in the first few months.
