17 Rules For Successful E-commerce Sites

By Robert Gorell
May 10th, 2007 just published their “17 New Rules for Successful E-Commerce Websites” for your quick-study pleasure. Rand Fishkin, the post’s author and SEOmoz chief executive, explains many of the same customer-centric fixes we’ve been preaching for years over here at Future Now.

With “moms, dads & grads” season in full swing, e-commerce sites can use all the bright ideas they can get–and these tips, if not all new, are timeless (I especially like #15… cracked me up).

Which of these techniques have you used? Did any of them improve conversion?

  1. Its really surprising how many reputable sites break these simple unspoken rules that users ultimately create and enforce.

  2. Robert – it’s “Fishkin” rather than “Fishman” :)

  3. Fixed it.

Grrr… That’s embarrassing. I’ve been following your work for awhile. I guess it’s the nickname that stuck, randfish. ;)

    Great article, btw.

  4. i’ve used all at some point but practices change throughout time

  5. Neat blog, some interesting details. I believe 8 of days ago, I have found a similar post. Does anyone know how to track future posts?

  6. That’s a great article. I can personally say that point 7 makes a real difference to conversions.
People love to see a discount/saving.

  7. Another great article on Internet marketing and SEO. With all the home and small business beginning to make its way on line, I would suggest two solutions. One is to ensure you have a robust, dynamic web site and secondly you retain services of a professional SEO organization.
