Blogs and the Law of the Essential Few

May 15th, 2007

Imagine an alternate universe. . .where legislation is passed, taxing you on every blog or feed you read above three (you know, this doesn’t seem so far-fetched, actually*). If you could choose only three blogs, so that you could get the breadth and depth of knowledge you need every day, which would they be?

As you know, we’re monitoring over 3,000 interactive marketing blogs now–hence the Blog Buzz link on our site–and want to be sure we have the ones that matter to…

Readersvoice.com

May 15th, 2007

What a wonderful and simple idea. Readersvoice.com aims to give people a few good reading tips. It brings authors together and interviews them in a refreshing and down-to-Earth format. Do you think a forum like this might sell books?

How could you get people together to discuss your products or service categories in a readable or viewable format? Here is an example of what you can get from the Web Analytics Association‘s Four Gurus for You Breakfast at last week’s Emetrics Summit.

May 14th, 2007

From Today’s BBC, as pointed out by Jakob himself in his newsletter (emphasis mine):

Sadly, said Mr Nielsen, the rush to embrace Web 2.0 technology meant that many firms were turning their back on the basics.

“They should get the basics right first,” he said. “Sadly most websites do not have those primary things right.

There was a risk, he said, of a return to the dotcom boom days when many sites, such as Boo.com, looked great but were terrible to use.

“That was just…

Do Not Disturb the Procrastinators

May 14th, 2007

Persuasive copy is worth whatever you paid for it, and then some…

That’s why ProFlowers converts 10 times better than most e-commerce sites; they know how to connect with fickle customers, even last-minute shoppers like me.

It was early afternoon on Saturday, Mothers Day was tomorrow, and I was on a mission: get eco-friendly bouquets for three lovely matriarchs, and quickly. Until…

What’s this? Even the virtual flower shops don’t have flowers?

ROI & Accountability: How Marketers Fool Themselves

May 11th, 2007

I’ve heard my brother Jeffrey explain the difference between ROI [define] and marketing accountability hundreds of times, but I realized we’ve never shared it in a public forum.

A recent exchange he had with Brian Carroll on his B2B Lead Generation Blog offers the opportunity.

Brian writes:

CEOs continue to demand better ROI measurement and accountability from marketers.

As a result there’s been a surge of interest in software and tools to manage the process of lead management, lead nurturing and lead generation with a greater…

Communication Style: How Does Your Boss Rate?

May 11th, 2007

If your boss is male, is he an Alpha Male?

I recently ran across an article at CareerBuilder.com called “Examining the Alpha Male at Work.” The article talks about the four communication styles of most CEO’s. Check it out to see what category your boss falls into and how to deal with that communication style.

What I found most interesting is they claim that, with more women in the workforce, typical Alpha Male leadership styles aren’t cutting it anymore.

I just finished listening to…
