Rediscover Your (Online Copywriting) Groove

By Robert Gorell

ProBlogger‘s Darren Rowse is doing a series called “How to Get Your Blogging Groove Back” that applies just as well to online copywriters.

Today’s advice: Write a product review.

Although he gets into how bloggers can leverage reviews with affiliate programs and the like, copywriters should consider doing this type of exercise even if it just means reviewing a new book on Amazon or your favorite movie on iTunes. Reviews are like mental push-ups for a copywriter. There you are, writing as passionately or dispassionately as you wish about something you know and care about enough to bother in the first place — and suddenly… it’s easier to find the positive and negative nuances of the subject.

Now, take that confidence and transfer it to the products and services you’re marketing, and bam… you’ll be able to communicate its virtues with the world. When you approach online copy with a critical lens, you’re better able to empathize with the reader’s natural skepticism.

Read the rest of Darren’s blog post, and try it out for yourself…

  1. I like the idea of not doing web design for the sake of reviews, but instead writing content an then monetizing for success. It’s correctly putting the horse before the cart. Many web design firms put design and usability before content. That’s just not the case. Usability and web design are the means to an end. The end is getting the content in your users mind.

  2. Thank for good article.
