For this week’s screencast, we’ve focused on improving the basics for Petco.com. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it…

Does your website stink? If so, you may want to read this. In the meantime, we hope to hear more suggestions from Grok readers for websites to review. We hope to hear some creative suggestions, and we’ll try to make sure there’s something everyone can learn.

Yikes! That’s just brutal! I’m sure they’ve spent thousands of dollars running those very useless campaigns.

Hi Anthony,
I really like the screencast concept. Great concise informative tutorial. Well done!
I took a look at the same search and noticed the following:
http://www.petco.com/Shop/petco_ProductList_PC_productlist_N_23+107+30+4294957007_Nav_206.aspx?cm_ven=GoogleP&cm_cat=Litter_Automatic&cm_pla=automatic%20litter%20box&cm_ite=Phrase+Ad_704377393%7C-%7C100000000000000039423
Seems like one of those odd web gremlins hit the site during your search.
Great tip though, no products on a search = no sales. Just like you mentioned “you have to do the basics”.

John,
I checked this several times today to see if it was corrected. Looks like it finally was. To me that is just as valuable a lesson to learn from Petco. We know they are great listeners and they respond quickly.

Hey Anthony:
Your landing page suggestion for the ‘handy shopping guide’ is one of best ideas I ever heard!! I love the idea of a landing page that also educates in a targeted way, I wish I thought of this one!
