Technorati: Porn Peddlers and Your Blog Image
We all loved it when Technorati had us ranked as the #1 blog last month but, this morning, I had another shocker…
I wonder who at Technorati even cares what people think about them now that founder David Sifry and several others have left. Check out the banner ad I found on my rankings page this morning:
How would you feel if this banner (click thumbnail) for porn popped up next to your blog? I doubt David Sifry would publicly comment. I also wonder what these fine bloggers would have to say if it happened to them:
Seth Godin
Joseph Jaffe
Darren Rowse
Mitch Joel
Robert Scoble
Elaine Vigneault
B.L. Ochman
David Dalka
Andy Beal
Valeria Maltoni
Mack Collier
Todd Andrlik

No doubt : Grokdotcom is too hot…
Stop tagging me while I’m on vacation.
I wonder if Technorati knows the ad is running - maybe they need the cash. It is interesting to consider does this ad reflect negatively only on Technorati, or the site listed on the page as well.
Aloha!
I wouldn’t be too happy. But that’s one of the reasons I pulled my site from Technorati. They no longer index it.
Clearly, as I’ve been writing in the last couple of days, there are all sorts of “Wild, Wild, West” issues with www right now - privacy being one of them, a very important one at that. It all has to do with finding a way to sustain (or scale, as it may be) what has been built so it can still be there and not burst.
I would welcome a conversation around a sustainable business model online that fits with what users and readers want and need vs. just more spam. There are ideas out there already for those willing to learn. Just because you can does not equal that you should, etc.
Hi,
We would like to inform you that we’ve had a recent issue with an advertiser serving adult ads on our site. We do not allow ads of this sort and have stopped all advertising with this company. Technorati strives to serve high quality, family friendly advertising and we take any violation of this very seriously.
If you see any adult advertising in the future please do not hesitate to email me personally.
Thank you,
Max
