I think generally “mac” owners want to continue considering themselves as a unique elite crowd. If an application is for Mac only I think it’s more likely to get used by the Mac community than a cross-platform application because it’s then not quite as special.

That said, I love Mac’s, but I don’t use one. =)

We’ve got a few ideas on how to make the page work harder, such as the inclusion of testimonials or product buzz. We’d also like to add more tutorials and quick start guides.

As for the “save the gorillas” angle, keeping this subtle was actually a strategic decision as we didn’t want it to come across as just a marketing ploy — we actually do want to help.

Yeah, the save the gorilla campaign is too easily lost. I had to scroll down a bit before it showed up. Even when it did, it was too easy to miss. I would place that piece of info somewhere on the upper part of the upper part (pardon the apparent). In fact, I would also suggest testing it as the last banana bullet to see how the response for that is. Any comments on how that would turn out to be like?

Can dissect my page anytime

Sometimes it is better to niche of course, i.e mac over p.c but Im sure similar software is out there waiting. Whether it has cool design is another matter.

Nice analysis! I really loved the concept of the parent company. I would also like to add one point and this is also a question for everyone – I think putting the same weight on download and buy now is reducing the chance to buy now and causing friction. What you all think?

@Gwen: yes, i think all of the ‘best practices’ i highlighted are transferable principles of design. part of the reason why i chose to post about this site is because it’s targeted to a very narrow audience, yet still follows these types of proven practices.

I agree that this is a well-designed, unique site. Furthermore, it appeals to all types of customers with text, pictures and video clips. The color stands out and is likely to be appreciated by most people. This site is a good example of making yourself unique without ostracizing yourself.

They do such amazing work at Clearleft. Definately a company to follow, if you want inspiration for great design!

And the Silverbackapp website is a good example of this.

On top of that, it’s a great product. Especially if you do Coffee Shop Usability Testing. But I agree with all the others: They should *really* consider making it for Windows also, I’d definately pay for that!

Hey Brendan,

yes I had the same thought about most designers using Macs.

However, what about us marketers on PCs? I was about to sign up and hand over the $49 and then I saw the Mac only blurb.

I mean a Usability service for $49? How good is that?

I feel actively discriminated against(lol) not to mention jealous.

Here’s hoping they come up with a PC version real soon.
